Traction Man, who wears combat boots, battle pants, and his warfare shirt, comes in a box like many action figures. However, he is found and owned by a very imaginative little boy. The superhero goes on many action filled adventures, like leaping buildings, that his owner sets his mind out for. This book is a wonderful way to experience the way an imaginative child carries out play. Before reading the story, encourage children to look at the cover and talk about what they notice. Then read through the book, pausing to talk about the pictures. Join in Create character profiles for all of the characters in the story, including the boy and his family. A cluttered house, lovingly rendered in comic-book panels by Grey ( The Very Smart Pea and the Princess-to-BeThe imagination & creativity of Traction Man will provide possibilities for expanding the story with activities. The action and dialog will attract readers. I recommend this humorous book for school and public library collections. This is a great book for reluctant readers & for kids who enjoy making up stories when they play. The mix of play fantasy & everyday interactions with parents & relatives is quite entertaining. The gift from Granny is a challenge that Traction Man can & will overcome! Your class will used the word mat, either writing the words or cutting the pictures out and completing the sentences. Can Traction Man overcome the humiliation of his desperately dowdy new look and rediscover the action hero within or will the burden of the knitted green monstrosity be too great? Teaching Ideas and Resources: English Carry out some drama activities based on the story. Could you perform part of it… or try some hot-seating to ask ‘Traction Man’ some questions? Their confidence and enjoyment will build as you revisit the book together and children become more familiar with the story and story language. Talk about the story I am currently 62 books behind if I had started January 1st, which I didn't. I'm only 96 behind for my regular reading challenge, which is doubled for the year. Will I make it? Will I get close? The suspense is killing me. Create a map of the house and label it to show the different adventures that Traction Man has in each part. The inside cover shows a letter from Traction Man’s owner to Santa, explaining that his old Traction Man had a ‘Terrible Parachute Accident’. Can you write a story about this to explain what happened?

In the second week of online learning, the children have started to think about the story of Traction Man, the characters and the roles of the different characters that they have read about. When we had put the water on the towel we measured how far the water had spread, using a ruler. 2EB came to the conclusion that the towel with the smallest spread of water was the most absorbent.I've been wanting to reread this ever since the sequel was released. It's a wonderful story about a child's imagination, and the pictures are a hoot. I love Scrubbing Brush, particularly.

Children can draw their own Traction Woman and tell the story of her amazing adventures. Unusual pet Nothing - and I repeat - nothing affected my little monsters so wholly as this book. It was like Harry's first day at Hogwarts - pure magic. This is a phonics resource linked to the popular story Traction Man is Here. The resource is aimed at Year and Year 2. We have differentiated the resource accordingly. Do your toy animals need rescuing from evil pillows? Are your dolls in danger of being buried alive? Traction Man always saves the day with aplomb. We have also includes a blank phonics sheet so your class can choose which sounds they can identify.

I was really pleasantly surprised. The story was hilarious and so were the illustrations. The little boy's imagination is so fun to see as his toys come alive for him and have exciting adventures. The humiliation of a hand-knit green romper suit (with matching hat) is perfectly executed and I can imagine that more than one child can empathize with poor Traction Man. Overall, this was a very entertaining story and while it likely will appeal most to young boys, our girls and I really enjoyed it too. I'm so glad that we discovered this little gem! Traction Man uses everyday household objects to carry out his adventures. Think of other objects and make a list of ways that Traction Man could use them… or ways that they could cause problems for him! Then we listened to some of the key features of a comic. Our job was to match the feature to its definition. One of the key features was onomatopoeias. We learnt that these are sound effects. We had a go at writing some of our own.
